X Is For Xenophobia

X appeared to be a difficult letter to get to grips with, I toyed with other ‘x’ words but kept getting drawn back to xenophobia, an acute dislike of foreigners.

Not necessarily of other cultures, however.  We seem to be very tolerant of the cultures we like to embrace, whilst at the same time disliking the people from those cultures.

What we must realise is that we are all descended from the same source.  We are all inextricably linked by our ancestors, no matter what we may look like in our generation.

For the whole of eternity people have been transient, they have moved from coast to coast and if we were all able to trace our lines back far enough in time we would find those people we may fear now are our forefathers.

Xenophobes, you should be more afraid of someone exactly like you.

Enjoy the journey!

  1. I have seen the word, but never knew what it meant. Phobias seem to be often linked to fears due to bad experienced with that they fear, but not always.

    1. Hi Paula, thanks for visiting. Exactly, a phobia is indeed a fear. Xenophobia is the fear of that which appears to be strange or foreign.

  2. I really don’t xenophobes that’s for sure. Everyone is unique and there are good and bad people all over the world, no matter where they are. It’s not unique to a certain “foreigner” or race, it’s just an attitude thing.

What an interesting word and you share a fact about life. One way or the other we are all connected. There is no point in sticking with labels.
