The Power Of Discipline

The Power of Discipline

When our ancestors started thinking about life and tried to understand how to make the best out of it plenty of virtues arose from their thinking. Each virtue could make you a better individual towards society while feeling great about yourself. The virtue that stuck with me the most from all the manuscripts found is Discipline.

The Power of Discipline

The Power of Discipline

Discipline is a fascinating subject in my opinion and it can be used in anything you do. Most people use it in health and fitness in order to have a healthy lifestyle by going to the gym and eating healthier foods. Others use it at work. Projects always have a specific deadline that you need to have in mind. If you don’t meet it then your boss might even fire you! Of course there are a lot of examples like these but you get the idea.

For Bloggers or any other content creators like YouTubers, Authors or Photographers for example, discipline is crucial. If you want your followers to keep following your journey and even promote it to others you have to be consistent. You have to keep posting content every 2-3 times a week or daily depending on what you do. Thus in order to stay consistent the secret ingredient is discipline. It’s what will remind you and push you to get up and create something instead of sitting all day long watching pointless TV shows.

The Power of Discipline

The Power of Discipline

On the other hand there are going to be some of those days when you cannot be bothered to do anything. Every now and then this is totally understandable. We are human beings and we cannot be perfect in everything. Either you are feeling too lazy that day or you are really exhausted from yesterday’s chores. Rest and relax that day to charge your batteries but make sure you don’t fall into the trap of resting the next day too. 2 or even more days in a row will create a bad habit because you will like the idea of not doing anything.

The Power of Discipline

The Power of Discipline

Now let’s talk about some practical tips to help you to be disciplined with your writing.

First of all in order to have discipline in writing you need to write about something you are passionate about. Otherwise you won’t care in the first place and will not be bothered at all. When you decide your niche create an actionable schedule for yourself. Base that schedule of yours on how much you can write and how often you can post. It’s your blog and you can do whatever you want anyway. Therefore why not use that to your advantage? However, even though it’s your blog and you don’t have anyone ordering you around, mark on a calendar specific dates as deadlines for your blog posts. Having that pressure will boost your willingness to write.

The next step is removing any distractions because they are the ultimate enemies of discipline. They can seduce you to stop what you are doing and just chill while browsing posts which you might not even care about. In addition to the previous paragraph about the resting days if it’s possible on those days you are resting try to write a few lines or even better a few paragraphs. The result is the last thing you need to worry about. Even if the whole document you have created is not good enough in the end you still wrote something. That will force you to keep the momentum going and stick to the promise you have made to yourself and to your readers. Last but not least symbols or reminders can help you a lot with motivation. It can be posters of other role models of yours, some awards which you have received because of your hard work or a piece of paper with future goals you might have about your blog.

The Power of Discipline

The Power of Discipline

Discipline is probably the best virtue/skill everyone needs to work on. It can help you be the best version of yourself, create more content and be proud of yourself along the way. Don’t neglect it, use the practical tips above to help you out and have the end goal in mind to stay disciplined.

Thanks for writing about something that doesn’t get a lot of attention. I always find I work better at night as I have less distractions- but then I’m so tired during the day! It’s important to set aside the time and take the distractions away to really produce good quality work!

    1. Hi Bar, thanks for visiting. I also find working late has less distractions. Good point.

  2. I definitely agree with what you’re saying! Discipline can be used in everyone’s life. I can completely relate to the consistency of posting that you talked about. That was what made me drift away from my blog for away, then I decided to recommit to posting 2-3 times a week. Sometimes it’s hard, but you have to push yourself, and even use that rest day as motivation to get it done.

  5. Hi Mandy and Vasilis,

Very important point. It’s all too easy to let things slide.

I try to make one post a week, because blogging is just part-time for me. Even that is a challenge. I usually manage it, but have missed a couple over the last few months due to family illness.

Hopefully back on track now – but it would have been so easy just to throw the towel in.

  12. What an appropriate read for me right now. Discipline and adhering to my new posting schedule is my #1 goal right now. When I’m on a deadline I have to eliminate all distractions so I can concentrate completely on my project. I love the tip about surrounding yourself with symbols/reminders or motivators of why you’re doing this and where you hope to go. The discipline of consistently showing up and writing great posts to deliver value is my greatest challenge I’m working on right now. Excellent reminders!

  25. Hi Vasilis,

Good to see you here. When it comes to discipline, I do think I have a handle on it. I had my own off line business for years and online for about 7 years. When it comes to having your own business, there is no room for distractions.

Social media can pull one down a rabbit hole but I have certain times that I visit to keep up and that only lasts for 10 minute intervals.

I know my friends and family still don’t get the point after all these years, but it is not my monkeys and not my circus. Do I sound harsh? Maybe, but I do have to get things done before any leisure time.

Great article about something most people do not know generally about. “Discipline is probably the best virtue/skill everyone needs to work on. It can help you be the best version of yourself, create more content and be proud of yourself along the way” If you study people who are very successful it is because they are disciplined in the way they go about building their business. Think of Mohammad Alli. Everyday training as hard as he possibly could. He was the best at what he did. World Champion. One word – disciplined.

Important suggestions about how to stay disciplined. I have no problem being disciplined within a project, when I have a definite goal and a specific deadline. The tasks just get done. However, just to write consistent blog posts, to send consistent emails to my lists and to post consistently on social media would be my next big discipline. I tend to take on too much and do not have enough hours in the day to do it all.

Honestly, I’m a person who love freedom so I don’t like anyone put any rule or discipline on me, and even if I, myself hate putting rule.

Living without any rule, however, we look like an animal. I’ve done the most stupid and crazy things that I ever did in my life. What’s more, I lake of achieving my goal and allowed procrastination cover my daily routines.
