Goal Setting Really Does Work

I’ve always been a strong believer in setting goals, even if I haven’t always lived up to my own expectations!  Early in June I set out a list of goals I wanted to achieve in the space of a month, essentially between Northallerton Meetups.  Part of the reason for this clearly was to get myself motivated and taking action, but also I wanted to have something great to report back at the July meetup!  My goals for the month can be seen in my post, All For One And One For All – Be Accountable.

So what exactly have I achieved in this month?  Well I set myself 5 goals, some of which were easily achieved in my opinion, others not so easy.  However, I have completed all the goals I set, which I am very pleased about.  I wasn’t sure I would get them all done, but everything worked in my favour and I was able to go back to Northallerton with a positive result.  So you see goal setting really does work.

One of the best results is the giveaways, that have been really successful for me and I now have a strong list of responsive sign ups.  I used the Push Button Giveaways 2.0 to record and enter my gifts.  It saved so much time and was really easy to use.  I will now use it for all the giveaways I enter.  If you want to take a look click the banner in the sidebar.

One of the great things about the goal setting is that it motivated me to do so much more than just the 5 things on the list.  While looking at monetising my sites in a more effective way I chose to have this site customised by the theme creator so I could accomodate sidebars down both sides.  Now anyone using the Graphene theme will know that there is already a 3 column option, but when I changed to it I found the central text area far too narrow, in my opinion.  So I wrote to the designer and asked him to customise the size for me.  There is always a solution to any problem we might face.

So what are my goals for the coming month?  Well, before the weekend a couple of long term colleagues asked if I could help them to prepare the blogging section of their internet marketing membership site, as blogging is my main focus, so I have set time aside to write that for them primarily so they can launch on 21st July.

In addition to that I want to:

  • Complete my Facebook Fan Page
  • Record two Power Point Presentations I have written using Camtasia
  • Work on my latest product, Conference Confidence
  • Cycle every day (part of my new fitness plan!)

This last one is to improve my overall well being, as we must all take responsibility for that alongside our working life.  I sometimes have felt that I spend too much time online and don’t always create opportunities for the important things that help my overall health and wellbeing.

Do you make time for fitness each day?  Even just half an hour of brisk walking will help to expand your lungs and keep the blood flowing.  Try it.

And don’t forget to set your goals for the coming month.  Goal Setting Really Does Work!

    Re the blog – I’m on Rachels pc and it’s too wide for her screen…. (people don’t like scrolling left to right these days) so that might still need a tweak?

    That said -= I’m glad to see you have some monetisation on the blog. Personally I would have linked to PBG in the text too – so it was easier for a reader to click it while reading and open it in a new window (especially with it being such a great, time saving, program!)

    Goals are something that I need to define better.
    I think your meet-ups are the perfect way to stay accountable.

    I need to hook up with more US marketers so that I can either host one or attend one.
    Maybe I should think of starting something like this 😉

    Your new blog design looks great Mandy, I like the new layout.
    It must be so pleasing for you to know that you are hitting the goals you have set for yourself.

    I set my goals for each month and then break them down to weekly targets – it helps me focus down on them more effectively.

    Giveaway’s is something I have not got involved in yet, but I will check it out now after reading your post! 😉

    The new product you are working on sounds very interesting, I look forward to its launch.

    Regarding keeping fit, I tend to jog twice a week and I do plenty of gardening! 🙂

    1. Hi Ian, thanks for visiting. That is a really good way to break your goal down. I do have a daily task list that tie in closely with my monthly goals. You should start to do giveaways when you are ready to work seriously on building your list, they are great for that.

      Regarding keeping fit, I used to play hockey and squash several times a week but that was some years ago now and I realised I’ve become very non active, hence the cycling!

    Thanks for popping over to my site.

    Had a few tough months mainly due to personal health due to injury, slowly getting back to normal 🙂

    Hence missed out on the last couple of meets at Northallerton.
    Its really great to see people and talk to face to face, go over all the little details which can easly be missed in e-mail and e books.

    One of my key goals during my absence due to injury was to at least keep doing a couple things a day. So have been going through my site and have got a list of planned updates.

    I used the time to set up a couple of new projects based on hobbies that had been pushed to one side when I started getting more involved in Internet Marketing… lols cos I did not have enough time 🙂

    It has really made me think about goals,setting your business up so its automated to a point that things can run with out too much daily input and also personal development to keep yourself learning.

    Inner development spirtually, improving your memory and making the most of what you have, especially as we are bombarded with so many e-mails with tempting goodies 🙂

    It’s good to know the meet ups have had such a positive effect on you. Goal setting is a must, but to be honest with you Mandy for the first 6 months of this year my head was pretty mashed from dealing with my mums situation.

    When it turned June I had to write the date down and boy oh boy did I get shock at seeing 6 months gone without me really doing much.

    Since then i really pulled my finger out and refocused on my work load. A couple of tweets from Sally helped me shake myself out of my bubble.

    I still have days where all I can think about is my mums state of health and some of the things she says really mix me up emotionally. That’s an ongoing situation that I have to deal with but I am now moving and doing what I need to do, when i can.

    I have a hand cycle that i have done loads of charity pushes on and I keep meaning to get it out and start loosing some weight but it takes some real effort to get on with it.

    There seems to be something every day to shorten my day, call at my mums hospital appointments etc so i tend to work on the PC rather than the bike.

    I’ll try and improve that.

    I love Goal Setting!! I have a pin board and a white board on my wall directly above me so that when I am sitting at the computer I can read them everyday.

    Reading has helped manifest them. Sometimes life has gotten in the way, however still reading the goals reminds me of what I am doing and what I am trying to achieve.

    Every day I set myself daily goals that work towards the bigger goals.

    I am like Kathy at the moment, I am looking for meetups in my area. I haven’t found any yet! 🙁

    And the ones I have found are at night time or on the weekend when I can’t go because of my bubba.

    I need to track down some other mums in the area I think and start my own! 😆

    1. Hi Jacinta, thanks for visiting. Great idea about the pin board and white board. I have my computer work area in the lounge and do blue tack things to the wall, but I have to take them all down when guests come!

      You should start your own meet ups, that’s what my product is all about, starting your own. It isn’t complicated, just finding people to attend is important. It’s a great opportunity to share and chat and motivate yourselves. There may well be other people too who would come day time, not just mums. Some people are flexible. Good luck with it!

Hi Mandy, goal setting, especially with a checklist, is definitely an effective form of making things happen. 🙂 I have once read a blog that those who list what they should do become really successful (complete with notepad and pen wherever they may go) people because they do not forget what they should do on that day or a certain period of time. Another imperative factor with goal setting is the motivation to do these things. 😀 And what you are currently doing is one sign that you are going to be successful! 😀

    I actually go for a walk to the shops everyday, wouldn’t say a brisk one though lol, I tend to casually stroll down the street texting on my phone ha ha, but anything is better than nothing right?

    Goals are very important, if you don’t know what you are aiming for then you are quite literally shooting in the dark!

    Right now I am focusing on a more regular daily schedule as I am easily distracted, especially by FB, so I have to make sure I have some fun time in there or all work n n no play makes Sally a dull girl!

    Great to see Northallerton had such a positive effect on you and you are still moving forward… FAST – we all know money loves speed.

    Goal setting is essential. I’m glad to know you are doing good with yours.

    You can set all the goals you want. You have to have the right mind set never to give up when hurdles come you way and you must plan and most important of all is you must take ACTION! With out action nothing happens.

    Also with out good health nothing happens! Your health and well being is something that can easily be forgotten about when you are working. There must be a time a place for everything in life and doing something about you health and well being should not be avoided.

    Having good health is # 1 everything else follows.

    I so get what you are saying about spending too much time in front of the computer! I have started up a walking/running facebook fanpage because I need to get back into shape, and a few internet marketers all want to help motivate each other.

    I love setting goals – I need to re-do my goals for the next six months as I have done so much lately, and my focused has changed.

    Goal setting really works. I have tried it in simple ways like telling myself I should finish this task today. But of course I need to really fight off procrastination and other things that could hinder it. That’s how it works for me actually. At the end of the day, I feel relieved to finish the task and thankful that I will no longer face it tomorrow. 🙂
