Why Do You Blog?

BloggingIf people ask me why I blog I would have to honestly say it’s because I love writing.  Coupled with the fact that I am passionate about my subject.  I am actually passionate about a lot of things.  I think you have to have that passion in life to enjoy things to their fullest.

I also firmly believe that if you have passion it will show in your writing and enable you to create great blog posts with relative ease.  If you are not a natural writer it is always a great idea to join a community of bloggers as this will help you to find support and ideas and advice.  You can also join the community I am part of by clicking this link:  The Power Affiliate Club.

Of course there is always the questions of how much you should share in your post and how long the post should be.  It is easy to get carried away when you are passionate about something, to divulge so much in one post that you leave nothing in reserve and the post becomes an epic length!  But if you break the content down you can often create more than one post on that single aspect of your subject.

I like to write posts that are short and to the point.  Mainly they are under 500 words, and often under 300.  If I find myself writing more than that I will look at how I can expand on the subject and create a short series or posts which can be linked by titles so they continue like a story through the topic of my choice.

So, why do I blog?  Because I love it!

Enjoy the journey!

    Hi Mandy,

A great post. I blog for similar reasons, although I am not a natural born writer, I am passionate about my subject. I like your point about keeping the blogs to under 500 words, makes good sense.

    Thank you for this post.
    Be well.

Hi Sarah, thanks for visiting. I actually love any writing, even letters! There’s nothing more satisfying than to know that someone is going to love receiving a hand written letter, there are so few of those about now. As for blogging, it is not always like writing, you’re right, so I can see why you can enjoy blogging but not enjoy writing.

It’s always interesting to learn why people blog. I occasionally mentor first-time authors and it’s a bit ironic how many of them view blogging as a necessary evil and struggle to write posts. As to length, well that is an issue for which the blogging community will never reach consensus. Most of the ‘experts’ are recommending 2,000+ words now. I go with what’s best for my topic and audience and normally that means between 900 and 1,000 words, but in the end, as a reader, I could care less about word length. What’s important is content. The pro at short posts is Seth Godin, but few can hit the mark the way he does.

Hi Marquita, thanks for visiting. I agree, the content is the important bit and sometimes you don’t need to write long posts, and other times you need the extra words to get your point across. For me, I would use any longer explanations as an opportunity to write a series of posts.

    Hey Mandy,

Everyone likes communication and with the help of online writing can be great idea to share personal thought, experience and emotions. Blogging not only changes your life, it also changes the life of the reader. And because blogs are free for the audience and open to the public, on many levels, it is an act of giving.

It is a selfless act of service to invest your time, energy, and worldview into a piece of writing and then offer it free to anybody who wants to read it. Others will find inspiration in your writing and that’s a wonderful feeling. Eventually, thanks for sharing your experience with us.

    With best wishes,

    Hi Mandy,
I think that each of us has their own reason for blogging. As some of your readers have stated in their comments. I love that people can communicate about what I have written. My own articles tend to be medium to longer depending on the subject. So why do I blog? I love writing, truly. English was my favorite subject in school. It comes from a love of reading as a child. Blogging is so cool.

    Hi Mandy,

This is something I have been thinking about a lot recently.

It’s true that I’ve always loved writing and enjoyed that aspect of blogging, but the technical side of it has got me down. As soon as one WordPress drama is fixed, the next one emerges. And I haven’t economized on hosting or theme!

I’ve also enjoyed meeting other bloggers through PAC, and couldn’t praise highly enough the support that they have given me.

Having finally found an online business that’s working for me – without blogging – I have been wondering just how relevant blogging is for my future.

I have concluded that I’ll use it for a while to track my progress and review some of the products in my business.

As to length of post …. I do tend to witter on a bit and tend to think of a short post as 1,000 words. I’m trying to keep within 1,300 for the sake of my readers, whatever the experts say 🙂

You posts are certainly easy to read, especially when I am pressed for time. Why do I blog?
It’s a chance to put my thoughts out there and get responses, sometimes unexpected and even educational.
It’s important to keep myself current. I write blogs and read others’ blogs to keep me up-to-date on all sorts of topics and niches.
It’s a way to connect with other and make lifelong friendships, even if we never actually meet in person.
And, it can help to bring in income, not directly but indirectly through being seen and known and sharing my products and services.

    Hey Mandy,
My entry into blogging was quite bizarre.
First, I was a baaad writer. In 2011, I created a traffic tool that brought me closer to bloggers. In one year, I had over 10000 members and some top bloggers like Ileane Smith, Gail of Growmap, Justin Germino of dragonblogger, Brian of BlogEngage and many others were around. This is how my interest for blogging set in and before I knew it, I was like, I should also blog. Yeah I became so excited that I started my first blog and it’s been a wonderful journey blogging and meeting more and more awesome people.

And about post length, I’m thinking about Seth Godin. He’s writing the shortest blog posts ever and getting about the most engagement.

    Do you read his blog?
