The Power of Affirmations

In my ‘other job’ as a youth worker I try to encourage the young people to be the best that they can be.  I was pleased to hear Michelle Obama telling a group of school girls to ‘be the best that you can be’.  It is something we should work hard to instill in young people.  Too many times I hear adults in their lives putting them down, criticising, throwing negative comments their way.

One of the tools I use with these young people to encourage recognition of their greatness is positive statements.  At the end of every piece of work I do the young people are asked to feedback to each other what they feel another group member did really well during the session. It helps them to feel great about their important contributions.  We then talk about how they implement that in their lives outside of the group.

I then ask each young person to consider one thing they feel they might like to improve or change in their lives and we use those requests as a basis for personal affirmations for each young person.  We take the issue and turn it into a postive statement they can repeat each day to help them to condition their mind to recognise the change.

It is really important to help them to understand how to identify those things that they can change and those things that they can’t.

Your mind is the most powerful tool you have access to.  Positive affirmations can help you to overcome blocks that you put in place in your life, they can help you to condition your mind to accept positive changes and they can bring about the happiness you so deserve in life.

I would like you to read these other posts that I feel are so closely related to this theme that I had to include them here.

Happy as you want to be, Just ordinary people, and Control those thoughts.

I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!

Enjoy the journey.

  1. I want to thank you for always being one of, if not always the first to comment on my blog. You are an inspiration of hope to me that my efforts are not in vain. Thanx a Million and I hope that a million is what you get in return, whether it be subscribers or $$, or both.
Your Wish is my Wish for you!

Hi Craig, thank you so much for that! Really sweet of you. I hope that the link I put in to your blog post helps. I understand it’s called a ‘pingback’ and should help with your status on the search engines. I’ve decided to be more vigilant about putting links to other students blogs if they fit in with my theme and the post you wrote certainly moved me.

    Enjoy the journey.

  2. How do you do a ping-back so I can return the favor and help others also? By the way: Thank you Again for your thoughtfullness.
    Cragar

Hi Craig, well you just have to put a link in your blog post to a blog post written by someone else. Make sure you put the link in to open in another window though (see week 2, video 7 if you can’t remember how). If we all do that apparantly it helps with the search engines. (I already said that, didn’t I!!) Make sure it is something in keeping with your blog post though or people will not click your links after a while if they don’t take them to anything useful or related to what you are saying.

    Enjoy the journey.

  3. Great post Mandy. We human beings are more than robots, and we need to ‘look on the bright side’.
    John

Exactly, John. We should believe in ourselves more. We are so very powerful and having a positive disposition is incredibly helpful.

    Enjoy the journey.

  4. Hi Mandy
Great post, I think if we ALL did this in our everyday lives, it would be a much more peaceful place.
    It certainly gets you thinking.
    Have a great week
    cheers
    Steve

Hi Steve, thanks for the positive response. It’s really important for us all to be positive and try not to fall into the habit of responding negatively to others.

    Enjoy the journey.

  5. Hello Mandy,
I enjoyed your post and the other links were interesting, and as Steve said, certainly gets you thinking. Encouraging young people to think positively is a very good thing I think, too much negativity around culminating in bullying, fights and worse, I think the young people you work with will get a lot of help and encouragement from you. Good luck with that as well as the course.
Now I need to take another of your tips to heart and manage my time more effectively, too much hard work, too little organisation……

    Best Regards
    Dave

Hi Dave, thank you for that. I absolutely love working with young people. My hope for the future is that this business takes off for me and I can spend more time volunteering.

    Enjoy the journey.

  6. Hi Mandy,

I love what you are doing with this site and with your other site. I think you should add some clickbank links to your sites that match your intent of the sites. These can also help bring up your traffic numbers and therefore possible members.

Great positive comments, thoughts and love. It really is what makes the world go ’round.

    Jay

Thank you, Jay, it’s really good to receive such great feedback. I’m afraid I’m rather non techie and picking appropriate links seems to be beyond me!

    Enjoy the journey.

  7. Where are you from? Is it a secret? :)

Not at all, Charlie. Read my ‘About Me’ page and it tells you I am from North Norfolk, UK. Thanks for visiting.

    Enjoy the journey.

  9. Mandy,
Good work with young people. It’s obvious from your blog that you are a positive person, and I was lucky enough to be born that way as well. I really can’t understand why anyone, and especially a supposed ‘adult’ should wnat to knock children with negative comments. What do they get out of it ??
Keep up the good work Mandy, you are an inspiration for many people.
    John

    Hi John,

I, too, have always felt lucky to be a positive person. I feel that some of it is about education at a young age though. We have proven time and again how much difference a positive attitude with young people can change their attitude to life and others.

    Enjoy the journey.
