Set in Stone

I don’t usually include pre-written content in my blog posts but I have just been sent something by a friend that I would like to share with you, my loyal blog readers.  It is called ‘Stone’.

‘Two friends were walking through the desert.  During some point of the journey they had an argument, and one friend slapped the other in the face.

The one who got slapped was hurt, but without saying anything wrote in the sand:

“Today my best friend slapped me in the face”.

They kept on walking until they found an oasis, where they decided to take a bath.  The one who had been slapped got stuck in the mire and started drowning, but the friend saved him.

After he recovered from the near drowning he wrote on a stone:

“Today my best friend saved my life”.

The friend who had slapped and saved his best friend asked him “after I hurt you, you wrote in the sand, and now you write on a stone.  Why?”

The friend replied “when someone hurts us we should write it down in sand where the winds of forgiveness can erase it away.  But when someone does something good for us we must engrave it in stone where no wind can erase it”.

Learn to write your hurts in the sand and to carve your benefits in stone.

They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them, but then an entire life to forget them.

Do not value the things you have in your life, but value who you have in your life.’

One of my great friends, John McNally, has written about how he maintains connections with those important people in his life.  You can read his blog post about it here.

Enjoy the journey.

  3. I hadn’t heard this story before, and it was well worth repeating Mandy. Writing negative comments in sand, and positive remarks in stone, is a great concept. Thanks for the blog advert. Hopefully I will get some visitors from your large group of followers :O)
    John

Bless you, John. I always hope the pingbacks will result in a spin off for my friends. Added you to my stone too!

  4. Hi Mandy
That’s really quite a moving story. People often think about the things in their lives rather than the people in their lives. Things can be replaced people can not.
    A nice reminder.
    Thanks
    Steve

A great sentiment, Steve. You’re added to my stone.

  7. I love that story and hadn’t heard it before. The idea of writing offences in sand and the positives in stone is great.

Yes people are what is important in life – they are my reason for seeking to learn how to do this internet marketing thing. I have both family and friends who are feeling very stuck in the rut they are in – lacking hope of ever getting out of the rat race. I am endeavouring to role model an alternative.

I am so fortunate in having a wonderful husband who does this with me.
