L Is For Love

“I am Me.  In all the world, there is no one else exactly like me.  Everything that comes out of me is authentically mine, because I alone chose it — I own everything about me: my body, my feelings, my mouth, my voice, all my actions, whether they be to others or myself.  I own my fantasies, my dreams, my hopes, my fears.  I own my triumphs and successes, all my failures and mistakes.  Because I own all of me, I can become intimately acquainted with me.  By so doing, I can love me and be friendly with all my parts.  I know there are aspects about myself that puzzle me, and other aspects that I do not know — but as long as I am friendly and loving to myself, I can courageously and hopefully look for solutions to the puzzles and ways to find out more about me.  However I look and sound, whatever I say and do, and whatever I think and feel at a given moment in time is authentically me.  If later some parts of how I looked, sounded, thought, and felt turn out to be unfitting, I can discard that which is unfitting, keep the rest, and invent something new for that which I discarded.  I can see, hear, feel, think, say, and do.  I have the tools to survive, to be close to others, to be productive, and to make sense and order out of the world of people and things outside of me.  I own me, and therefore, I can engineer me.  I am me, and I am Okay.”

Virginia Satir, American psychologist and educator, 1916 – 1988

Love isn’t just about loving someone else, it is about loving yourself too.

Enjoy the journey!

Nicely said, you have resolved problems because you own them and want to unload the garbage. YOU can share the bad sstuff too, esp. when you beat it.

As we spoke the other night at jail, two of the men started crying….one was pretty bad. I spoke to him after the service, my main concern was how depressed was he, ie do you have thoughts of suicide? it happens in jail to inmates and corrections too.
Interestingly enough one of the ladies with me had witnessed how depressed she had been 15 years ago and that she needed medicine for it. This is no wimpy lady, she worked on the streets with FBI for years. So, when I spoke to this man, I was able to interject her suffering and her need for anti depressants temporarily. So, yes we personally discard the not so good stuff, but sharing it often helps the healing process of those who suffer presently.

Hi Lesly, lovely to see you here! I loved that part too. We are always masters of our own world too. Sadly some let others in and allow them to hold too great a position in their lives.

      Enjoy the journey!

    L is for LOVE

    This stuck out for me
“I can see, hear, feel, think, say, and do. I have the tools to survive”

and “Love isn’t just about loving someone else, it is about loving yourself too.”

    Yes indeed it is.

I do believe in loving myself, living purposefully and loving life. Studies show that positive emotions like joy, hope, and love increase creativity, problem-solving skills, and trust. Positive emotions have a soothing effect

    Hi Mandy

How will one be able to love and appreciate others if he does not love himself. You are so right and thank you so much for this quote. Take care and have a swell week.
