I’m a Barbie girl
Actually it was a choice of that title or ‘I don’t need viagra’, and I thought that one might cause too many odd ads from adsense. The fact that I’ve mentioned it in the body of the text might still subject me to that (and you, the readers!). Maybe I am getting the hang of this keywords thing!
So you are probably already wondering what this post is about. I will start with the viagra tale. Akismet stopped the longest spam comment I’ve had to date yesterday. I had to scroll down three times just to get to the delete button. Every single line of the comment was an advert for viagra. Having had to close an email account in the past because of the enormous amount of spam emails I got advertising this stuff I was not happy to see the spam comment on my blog! So, to all you viagra spammers, I do not need viagra!
So back to the topic of the blog. Interesting how the title kind of fits in with the alternative topic! It doesn’t mean what you might be thinking though!
I put on my best bib and tucker last night for the service at the church I attend. The reason I did that is because the night before I was at a karaoke party with some of my fellow church attenders and yes, you guessed, I sang ‘I’m a Barbie Girl’! (The song was picked by someone else, I hasten to add!)
They threatened to tease me mercilously about it at church and I decided I would go in looking my best to throw them off track. I also decided that it would help to ensure everyone else did not see me as a ‘Barbie Girl’ type! If you want to read more about dressing to impress take a peek at Susan Young’s blog here, and in particular her posts on how to dress to impress for women and men.
As it happened my friends did not turn up at church so I had the glory of announcing to everyone that I had sung ‘I’m a Barbie Girl’ so that if they do mention it, everyone knows they heard it from me first!
Two points I wish to finish with. Firstly, if you ever want to leave a positive impression after a party DON’T sing ‘I’m a Barbie Girl’, and secondly, if you do make an idiot of yourself somewhere and are worried about others finding out, avoid the fireworks and tell everyone first!
Enjoy the journey.
That`s the way Mandy, get in first and steal their thunder. Works everytime.
best wishes
Colin
Exactly, Colin! Thanks for visiting.
Enjoy the journey.
Mandy
Ha Ha, yes, I’ve made an idiot of myself more times than I care to think about but I was happy to tell people and give them a bit of entertainment, and that way as you say is better than others slipping the stories out when you’re not aware of it. Mind you I don’t do karaoke, at all, I’d empty the room!!!
Interesting about the spam too, I’ve had quite a few long smaps caught by akismet so I have to thank John for letting me know about that plugin, and I haven’t particularly marketed the blog so I hate to think what will happen when I do…
Good post again Mandy
Best wishes
Dave
Hi Dave,
I agree, I think we could be getting quite a few more of those long spam comments.
I think most of my fellow church attenders have signed up to my blog so they’ll know I’ve told all now!
Enjoy the journey.
Mandy
Hi Mandy,
Tell me about it , i have made a fool of myself once at karoke i sung queens “i want to break free”, the thing was i had to do it for a laugh with a wig on and lipstick, god i looked like…Doris ?

Oh Ed, you’re so funny!

Mandy
Hi Mandy,
Great post! You made me laugh about the ‘Viagra’ spam … gosh, they are so annoying. I am no longer receiving text messages on my phone because every day I would receive another ‘invitation’ to check out the newest and hottest ‘sex site’ … there you have it
Many Thanks,
Svenja
As I said, Svenja, I had to cloe one email account because there were so many of them. Really annoying.
Enjoy the journey.
Mandy
Fun post Mandy. I think everyone has been in the same boat one time or another. Just so you know, as I get older, I really don’t care what other people think about the things I do anymore. It is a freeing experience.
Jay
Excellent, Jay, you carry on being yourself.

Hi Mandy, Fairplay to you girl, beat them to it every time and take the arrows out of their bows.
I’ve been visiting masterclass blogs today and just had to pop over to yours and say “Resect to you my friend”, every blog that i have visited today has a comment from you on it. And all of them are words of encouragement. There really are some nice people doing this course and Mandy my friend you’re one of them.
Respect and Regards
Barry Wells
Hi Barry, thank you so much for visiting. There are some super blogs in Masterclass and I can’t wait to read what people’s next post is!
Enjoy the journey.
Mandy
I love your post! I usually get the same spam messages but like you say akismet stops the and just a matter of deleting them, you can’t get away from them not matter what you do, and regarding about doing the ridicule I used to be on the look out so it won’t happen to me but after getting my grandkids I just do it all the time and have found that, that is the best relaxation that there can be, it is a form of releasing all the stress of quotidian life either doing it because you’re playing along entertaining other people (In my case will be my grand kids and I do not care who is observing, I’m enjoying my self with them)or because you got caught in the middle of social life and they ask for a show, the main thing to remember is enjoy whatever you do even if it is a mockery and when you enjoy it the they usually retreat.
On another note, I want to say thank you for being so nice and kind visiting my blog and leaving your always nice comments if everybody were like that the world would be different, Thank you again.
Best whishes,
Andres Luna
Hi Andres, it is easy to leave nice comments on good blogs! Thank you for visiting and leaving a nice comment on mine!

Hi Mandy
Well, singing I’m a Barbie Girl isn’t something that I can say I have ever done, even a karaoke
. I have done some very silly things after parties which I have told people about first before they find out from someone else so I agree there.
Sounds like you had fun.
Cheers
Ben
Had loads of fun, thanks, Ben.
Enjoy the journey.

Nice post Mandy,
That remind me some situations, just like this one, I’ve been through (except for the Barbie Girl song). But that was always fun with friends.
BR, Mostafa
Hi Mostafa, you should try the Barbie Girl song – it is so much fun!
Enjoy the journey.
Mandy
Hi Mandy was going to tell you to keep it up, probably inappropriate considering the viagra reference, so keep on posting always good thought provoking content.
Take care
Rob
Ha! Nice one, Rob! Glad you enjoy the posts, hope you enjoy my guest posts on Steve King and Steve Wilkins’ blogs too!

Hi, Mandy
Interesting last blog – don’t actually Karaoke myself (can sing a little but worked with too many pro singers from musical theatre and opera).
How’s the e-book coming along
Regards
Hey Tom, nice to see you here, thanks for visiting. I half wished I didn’t karaoke actually! The ebook is finished apart from awaiting graphics so I’m very pleased.
Enjoy the journey.
Mandy
Hi Mandy –
Pleased to hear you made a fool of yourself – got to be done every now and again I think – otherwise you run the risk of taking yourself just too seriously! – and anyway what harm was done? (Oh, OK several admitted to hospital for ear drum ruptures – but that’ll heal, right?)
BTW – no need to delete Askimet spam – it does it all by itself every so often – just make sure the comments you want (and mine!) get through – then LEAVE the rest for Askimet to “learn”.
And why still no picture of you on your blog Mandy? Is it true that you actually ARE the barbie girl?
Cheers!
Sx
Thank you, Susan, I am interested to learn that about Akismet. I’ll leave them in future then. And I don’t think casualty was full! I know you have now found my pic – I’m not as tall as the one in the cap so it can’t be me!
Enjoy the journey.
Mandy
You remember what I said about having to make a fool of yourself every so often? well, apologies – you’ve put a photo on your About Me page since I last checked it out – I assume that IS you in the cap right? LOL!
He he, nice one, Susan. Oh for a uniform!
Enjoy the journey.
