How Do You Re-use Your Content?

Re-use Your Content

All over the internet you will find articles and blog posts on re-purposing content.  It’s a great way to get everything you do used in the best way possible.  It allows you to get your writing out in front of many more eyes than just leaving it in one place for ever.

So how do you re-use your content?  For me I try to look at different ways of presenting what I have written.  So I might make a video for my YouTube channel, they are always very similar to my blog posts, short and sweet!  You can see an example by clicking this link here: How To Add Categories To Your Blog Posts.

This video was made following a blog post I wrote as a guest blogger, which is something I also do from time to time.  Often I find people will ask questions in the comments and I find it easy to create quick videos to help people to learn a bit more about blogging and how to do simple tasks on their blogs.

Another way I will re-purpose content is to create articles from the posts.  Sometimes I extend them to meet the word requirements of the article directory, other times I might add two or three related posts together to create the article.  I am an Ezine Expert Author.

One of the things I have just done to help me to re-use my blog content is I have bought a piece of software that will enable me to take my blog posts and automatically turn them into a pdf so I can use it as a giveaway.  Although I usually write short posts the software allows you to add more than one post into the book, so I can choose related posts and put them all inside with barely any effort at all.

So how do you re-use your content?

Enjoy the journey!

Hi Chery, thanks for visiting. I know, I couldn’t believe it when I saw it, looks great and so easy to use. It’s called Designerr and I managed to get in early at a one time payment, but notice their sales page only offers monthly payments now. They do offer a 14 day free trial so if you have got posts you can use straight away you could take the trial.

Hi Elise, thanks for visiting. I should really do that too! I didn’t use images in my early posts so could add those, also some content is not relevant anymore so really does need updating to make it evergreen.

    Hi Mandy,

This is a great post, something I have been thinking a lot about lately. I think it is important to revisit past work and give it a new twist, especially as time has gone on, my style evolves, my graphics change, the brand alters as I learn more. I don’t want to dismiss past work, so great to learn new ways of re-purposing it. At the moment, I only re-post on the usual social media channels but will be thinking about this more. Thanks again.

Hi Roger, thanks for visiting. There are lots of ways to re-purpose your content. Writing catch up posts is one way, revisit an old post and write an update. Use it for other things, e.g. create a pdf download from some of your posts and use it as a giveaway for your readers, use the posts and create an article from them to submit to article directories, use your content in your training! I’m full of good ideas!

    Hi Mandy

I have repurposed my posts by turning them into a PowerPoint presentation and from there into a video.

Another thing I have done is compiled several related posts into an ebook and then used it as a lead magnet. Although the software you bought sounds a great bargain as a one-off cost, it’s actually very easy to just grab your post from WordPress paste it into Word and output as PDF.

All of which sounds wonderful…. if only I did it regularly enough 🙁

So thanks for a great reminder about reusing our posts!

Hi Joy, thanks for visiting. I agree about the ease of creating pdf’s. I love the software because it gives me templates to use so they’re not just bland and I don’t have to spend time adding images, they’re all imported. There’s also a plugin being developed that does the same thing. It will be released in a month or so.

Thanks for sharing these tips Mandy. Repurposing is definitely valuable since it lets you get your ideas out to more people as you said. I think another good method of easily repurposing content is simply to break down the important points (like statistics and data) into dot points and then reconnecting them like a connect-a-dot. This way you can also elaborate more upon certain points that you think are more relevant to the new place you’re repurposing it for!

  • Hey Mandy,

I like the idea you used to re-use your content, the different ways of presenting what you have write, isn’t it. You are definitely write, I also have an idea to start a new technology blog where I start writing on tips and tricks, tutorial, social media hacks, new technology news and on gadgets issues. I will write an article on it to my blog and then publish it to my YouTube channel too. This is the best way to re-use of your content.

This is really very interesting to know the way you re-use your content. I enjoyed it lot. Turning blog post automatically into pdf may also be the best way to provide it to your daily active reader through mailing it. The way to turn it into pdf your content is very useful to know for me. Thanks for interesting post sharing.
    With best wishes. 🙂

Hi Ravi, thanks for visiting. I love making videos so it’s a perfect solution for me. I have always made short videos that I think may be of some help to others but only really understood the concept of re-purposing content recently. My blog posts are so short that I would have to merge several to make a pdf but another great idea and watch out for next week’s post about his very topic!

Great ideas here. I was waiting to create categories on my blog, then forgot to do it so your video is a big help. You have a lovely English voice btw.

Repurposing is a good idea. I too have software to turn my blog posts automatically into a pdf so I can use it as a giveaway.

Haven’t done videos from my posts yet but a great idea.

I go through my older posts and update them, taking more care with the more popular ones. I’ve just installed a plugin which adds the updated date to the top of posts.

I’ve started a resource site on a subdomain where I post images, pdf files, infographics etc to complement my posts. Mind you, I recently read it might be better to host these on your main domain do as not to dilute your traffic. The subdomain might become a sub folder 🙂

For one of my categories (about web and social media images) I’ve create a separate page, with a menu item, linking to the more popular articles in the category. I seem to get a wider and often different audience for that topic so wanted to make it easier for them to find it.

I’ve still to create any videos.

    Hello Mandy,

Great stuff on how to re-use your content. Most people do not use this strategy to expand their content game. This is really helpful when you’re running out of ideas to produce content or when you’ve great content at your hands that you want to re use by making YouTube videos or putting out an e-book.

  • Mandy,

I just took an email that I am sending out to my lists tomorrow morning – and created a blog post from it. I have never done that before. The email was inviting people to join the Healing Recovery Retreat. So instead of re-writing from scratch, I used some of the images I have created for social media posting and I added to the email and revised it. Voila – an entire new blog post done.

However, I don’t often think about re-purposing blog content. I used to re-purpose my blogs as ezine articles. I am a Diamond author with hundreds of articles, just haven’t written any lately. But maybe I will re-purpose this current blog post by making it into an article also.

    Thanks for the reminder.

    Warmly,

    Dr. Erica

Hi Dr. Erica, thanks for visiting. I haven’t written anything for Ezine for years, I am an expert author and used to write regularly but found the traffic from it dropped off, I guess as more people posted. There’s only so much to go around! Great news about your re-purposing efforts! It’s a really good way to save time.

I reuse my content a couple of different ways. The first is that I’ll take older articles that never got any comments, rewrite them so they’re longer and more detailed, and reissue them as new. The second is re-posting that old content on Facebook and LinkedIn… although when I do it on LinkedIn I’ll also rewrite part of it so that it’s not a direct copy of the original.

We are having e-commerce website named Urbaneparent which we used to sell school uniform, shoes, bags etc. We always prefer various social media platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, instagram, twitter etc. to promote our products.
Also, we publish blogs for school related stuff. This is very good for our website as it grows maximum traffic to our site.
