Get More Opt-Ins By Giving Away A Good Gift

A great free gift is a sure way to get more opt-ins.  When you first set your blog up in your chosen niche you should know that it is important to start to build a list of subscribers straight away.  This list will be made up of people who are interested in what you have to say about your chosen subject, and they may also be interested in any products that you recommend.  Having a list is really important, and the bigger the better.  So what free gift should you offer to encourage more opt-ins?   What can you give away as an enticement for people to want to give you their contact details so you can build your list?

This question should not be taken lightly because these are your people, your subscribers, your customers.  You want to give them valuable information that will help them, and you want to give them what they want.

If you’re already getting some traffic to your site, either through organic searches for your longtail keywords or article marketing, then one way to find out is to look at the subject matter that sent them to you in the first place.  If some have already opted in then email them and ask them what they would like to read.  You can always send your gift to your existing subscribers as well as offering it as an opt-in freebie.

Here are some suggestions for possible opt-in gifts:

  • A report that gives the solution to a problem.  Not just any problem; but a very annoying, frustrating problem where their life will be changed if they can apply the solution.  To find these topics visit forums in your niche and see what people are compaining about and what solutions are being offered.
  • An ebook that explains step-by-step how to do something.  What do readers in your niche most want to know how to do?  That is what will make for a good How To ebook.
  • A free tool that helps them do something easier, better, or faster.  Who isn’t interested in making their lives easier?  The more frustrating the problem is, the more likely they’ll want the tool.
  • Something that they can turn around and give away to build their lists.  This also falls under the “make my life easier” heading – if they can get their hands on a report they can give away too, then they’ll see that as a desirable report to grab.
  • An audio recording of an interview with an expert in your field who is sharing new information. Experts know a lot, but what’s going to draw the most opt-ins is the expert’s new info and/or top secrets.

Keep in mind it’s possible to have more than one freebie, and even desirable in many cases.  Try one with a traditional opt-in box above the fold on your site, then perhaps another box for something else on a different page of your site where the opt-in complements the post there.  Try a third in the sidebar linked to a banner ad.  Check your results to see which performs the best.

A great place to get good PLR you can work on to create your free opt-in gift is All Star PLR.  Peggy Baron, the site owner, writes all her own content all articles are unique, good quality content and very well written.  It’s a great place to start if you are unsure how to create a giveaway product, or if you just haven’t time to do it all from scratch.  Peggy writes on a wide variety of topics so there should be something in your niche, and if you can’t find it email her and she will create it for you!

Building your list is an ongoing process and one vital to your success online.  Ask your readers what they most want based on the suggestions above and give it to them.  Giving away a good gift will not only increase your opt-ins, but eventually your income.

Hi Mandy, this is a very timely post as I’ve just written one, with a video included, showing people how to add an opt-in form to their blog posts.

In the post i also offer a brand new video showing people how to Triple Their Blog Traffic, and yes Mandy this gift is for an opt in 😉

I have to say that you chose the right person to recommend for supplying GOOD quality PLR. I’ve purchased from Peggy myself and I have to say that her packages have impressed me more than any others to date.

One thing that people really need to understand is that they don’t want, or need, to offer the same product as lots of other people. Buying their own good quality PLR product makes it a one off and only available from one place.

Take care Mandy, catch you up again soon,
    Barry

Hi Barry, thanks for commenting. I do agree, Peggy is the only person I buy from and the reason for me is because she limits her packages to 50 of each and once they’re gone, they’re gone. That also ensures the internet isn’t swamped with repro’s of the same thing all the time. Your opt in sounds great, pity I already subscribed, maybe I’ll unsubscribe and subscribe again just t get it….

      Enjoy the journey.

    Hi Mandy,

I’m kind of struggling with this at the moment. I had a free report I offered my readers but took it down because some of those tactics are kind of outdated.

Now I’m in the process of trying to decide what to offer my readers since I’m also trying to come up with my first product. I want them to kind of go hand in hand but I’m starting to beat myself up over it because I just can’t come up with something I’m satisfied with.

This post has helped me in trying to get my thoughts in better order so I’m going to revert back to this when I dive back into this again.

Thanks for sharing this with us now. I appreciate it.

Hi Adrienne, thanks for visiting. I think you’ve got a good plan to link them together. Have you thought about an autoresponder course for the giveaway? Doesn’t have to be long but could tie in nicely with an ebook that goes more in depth on your chosen subject.

      Enjoy the journey.

    Hi Mandy

Ecourses are another good way of building a list. They dont have to be very long 5-7days and they are good relationship builders aswell.

I think sometimes people complicate things too much and that’s why they dont get started in the first place.

They think they have to write this 50 page ebook or something and really you don’t.

Could be something as simple as a useful checklist or maybe even a mindmap and they wouldn’t take long to do at all.

I think the main thing is – just get on with it and start building that list.

Hi Dawn, thanks for visiting. That’s a good idea, and I totally agree with you about ebooks. They can be just far too overwhelming when you start out.

      Enjoy the journey.

  • Great post, Mandy! It’s important to show people what you can offer them by “giving it away” once in a while, outside your blog. An ebook or “pillar article” gives people something to keep, and unless they delete it, gives them a constant reminder of you, right on their own machine. Great stuff gets read and re-read, saved, highlighted, and put into practice. People talk about you. It’s really important, and you highlighted that very well! 🙂

    Hi Mandy,

You talk about such a creative aspect of this business there are so many things you can do. Your post really lets the mind go on what’s possible.

Providing value is what it’s all about. The more value you provide the better you will be remembered.

Working your list by making your subscribers like you and building a relationship is what it’s all about. Then when you recommend something people will listen.

Thanks Mandy for letting us know about a great lady where we can get premium PLR to help us in our online journey. One only has to go to her blog to see how she’s got it all together.

Hi Terry, thanks for visiting. Sorry for the delay in replying, I’ve been trying to work from my BlackBerry since the cat broke my router!

You hit the nail on the head with your comment about value. If you offer great value to your subscribers they will keep coming back for more.

      Enjoy the journey.

      Mandy
