Feeling satisfied!

There is a definite feeling of satisfaction when we do something freely for others.  Whether that is giving a helping hand, a word of advice or something more tangible.

This week I went to Wales to help to move the 8 World of Whispers horses to the Norfolk/Suffolk border.  I have been volunteering for most of my adult life and being involved with these horses has been one of the best volunteering experiences I have ever had.  We travelled overnight, leaving Wales at 2.15am and arriving at our destination just after 9am this morning.   Our next task is to find a permanent project base to operate from and we are now working on a plan to help us to achieve that by next spring.  We need at least 50 acres of grazing with some buildings suitable for use by people visiting the project.  The horses are not stabled, living outside 24/7, so they only need either natural shelter or basic shelter, not necessarily stables.  Ideally the location will be within North Norfolk, but anywhere towards the Norfolk/Suffolk border could be suitable.

One of the things we are doing to help move the project forwards is fundraising that will enable the project to become a Registered Charity.  We are currently running a raffle that will be drawn at my Art Gallery on 16th December, 2009.  Tickets can be purchased by visiting the World of Whispers website, or contacting me via my email, admin @ mandyallen.com.  We hope to raise £5,000 through the raffle.

If you have never experienced that euphoric feeling that comes after giving freely you should try it.  Find somewhere to volunteer, give something for nothing, and see how much difference it makes to your overall well being.  The rewards are immense.

Enjoy the journey.

  2. Hi Mandy,

Id like to say, i admire your love of horses, and more so the effort and time you put in..

You know through the study of the American indians that i have undertaken over the years, i have learn`t a lot about the history of the horse into the southern western American plains by the spanish conquestaduers and how the apache, commanche, and navojo tribes tamed them becoming the birth of the first indian horse culture!

    TTFN….Ed.

Ed, a mine of information, aren’t you! They are splendid and I am privileged to be able to spend this time with them.

    Enjoy the journey.

  3. Hi Mandy

I’m all for helping people, but you take things to the next level, I really struggle with early mornings :)

I’ll buy some raffle tickets from you.
    cheers
    Steve

    Hi Steve,

What star! I also struggle with early mornings but this was a special event. I’m so pleased I took this opportunity to help out, it was an amazing experience.

    Enjoy the journey.

  4. Well done Mandy, you’re doing great things for the horses.

I know what you mean about feeling satisfied and even euphoric when giving freely. This is a natural reaction, and because of it, there is a theory in psychology that there is “no such thing as altruism”. If altruism is defined as giving freely without reward, then satisfaction and eurhoria IS a reward. :-)

Keep being altrustic Mandy, it’s good for everyone. :-)
    John

Blimey, John! I never thought of it like that! Interesting theory…I’ll keep doing what I do though.

    Enjoy the journey.

  5. Hi Mandy, your drive often impresses me. Where do you get your enegry from. You are to be saluted.

I haven’t looked at your links yet but will right after this. I’m still playing catch up, (and not getting very far quickly).

I’d also like to say “Thanks for the support you gave while my mum was at deaths door”. You all helped a great deal.

    Regards, Barry

You’re very welcome, Barry. Thank you for your kind comments

    Enjoy the journey.

  6. Mandy, That’s great advice you give regarding volunteering for a worthwhile cause. In my experience I have felt no greater pleasure than helping someone, for no other gain than the ‘buzz’ it gives!
I hope you realize your ambition that the ‘World Of Whispers’ horses project achieves registered charity status.

    Best Wishes, Ray

Hi Ray, thanks so much for visiting. I do find volunteering so rewarding, glad you agree!

    Enjoy the journey.

  7. Hi Mandy
    Happy New Year!

How did the raffle go, did you manage to hit the £5,000 target?

I hope the event went well for you.
    speak soon
    cheers
    Steve

Hey, Steve, Happy New Year to you, too! We were a little short of the target but the whole thing was a great success and we learnt LOADS! We have now found a project base in mid Norfolk and moved the horses there last week. Sadly we lost one of the horses just before Christmas (21st Dec) so the herd is now 7. Sad time for us all. The project launch is set for very early April and we already have customer bookings for experiences with the herd! So all is moving forward positively here. Hope your new job is going well.

    Enjoy the journey.
