Dedicated to the one I love

I was driving home tonight and listening to the radio.  Jackie Wilson’s song ‘Your Love Has Lifted Me Higher’ was on and my heart swelled when I heard it.  One of the most powerful emotions is love and I know how lucky I am to have the love of a partner in my life.

I am very fond of music.  I sing in a choir so I guess I’d have to be really.  ‘Dedicated To The One I Love’ is a favourite of mine and my partner and I sing it as a duet (along with less well known songs!).

I decided to write this post and dedicate it ‘to the one I love’, my partner, for a million and one reasons.  Sometimes I know I can take my partner for granted, especially right now when I am spending so much time on the Internet trying to get my online business off the ground.

Ben Johnson’s partner wrote two brilliant posts about what it’s like to be on the ‘other side’ of the partnership, with the Internet in the middle.  You can read them both here.

I am only as good as the people around me, and I know my partner takes a lot of the strain at times.  Whenever I succeed at something I am well aware that there are two people who have contributed to that success.  No matter how visible I am my partner is always beavering away in the background, ensuring everything else still runs smoothly.

Love makes the world go around.  Try not to take your partner for granted.  Try to make time to let them know how very special they are, even when you are busy.  I know I must.

Enjoy the journey.

  4. Hi Mandy,

YES!! My beloved man has also been so very supportive! Although I am starting to dream about the Internet, the book, the blogs, etc., etc. … he is always there waiting for me to come up for a breath of fresh air :-)

Thank you for reminding us of the power of love! At the end of the day, that’s what’s most important … the love we hold for someone and the love someone holds for us!

    With gratitude,
    Svenja

Hi Svenja, I know what you mean about dreaming about the work! I get my best ideas in the middle of the night though!

    Enjoy the journey.

  5. Hi Mandy, great words, we don’t realise sometimes just how lucky we are to have the love and support of others in our lives, it makes all the sacrifices we have to make from time to time so worthwhile knowing we have the love and support of others.

    Best wishes
    Rob

Hi Rob, very true, our partners can be our greatest asset while we test new waters.

    Enjoy the journey.

  6. Hi Mandy

This is a very thoughtful post and a gentle reminder, to me at least, that I should not be selfish in my online endeavors (or in anything else) when it comes to my wife, Svetlana.

    Thanks for the reminder.

    All the best – Keith`

Thanks for visiting, Keith. It is a gentle reminder to us all, it is so easy to forget to say these things.

    Enjoy the journey.

  7. Great post Mandy,
As the Beatles said “All you need is Love”. Being a man I find it difficult to express this in words, but I have got into the habit of buying flowers, which I think says it for me.
    John

Brilliant, John, flowers are always a good move!

    Enjoy the journey.

Thanks for the reminder to not take the one we love for granted.
My wife and I will be celebrating our 35th anniversary in a few days,
and I never want to take her for granted.

    Thanks again.

    Have a great day.

    Doyle Gamblin

That’s brilliant, Doyle! Congratulations, and I’m sure that is one of the reasons you have had a long partnership. Good for you!

    Enjoy the journey.

  9. Hey Mandy,

I know exactly what you mean about how music affects you. I can hear a song one day I’ve heard a thousand times and it can feel like I’m hearing for the first time. As for the other topic about your partner, I feel guilty sometimes taking so much time away from us while building this dream we are all working on. But she knows that we are working towards a common goal, and someday will be able to spend all the time together that we want. Thanks for the words of inspiration, both here and on mine and everyone else’s blogs.

    Paul

Hi Paul, thanks for visiting. Glad we’re all letting our partners know how much they mean to us, even though we’re working so hard at this.

    Enjoy the journey.

  10. Hello Mandy,

I can tell you first hand how important the other half is. My wife is my driving force and without her I am not sure I would be enjoying this journey at all. She gets me up when it is time to go to work and makes my breakfast just in time to greet me when I leave the bedroom. She has my lunch ready every day and escorts me to the door as I leave for work. She actually meets me at the door with a balloon of all things in the morning when I get home that says “Your Special” and as she puts it “gives me a ride” to bed. (I sleep in the daytime and work at night). She encourages me to work on my days off at this incredible journey and is actually my rock. I am right there with you on this post… and I am enjoying the journey. Thanks for listening.

    Gary R Turner

Hi Gary, hope Marianna is okay, she hasn’t updated her blog for ages. I keep visiting to check. Glad you popped by,

  11. Hi Mandy,

Nice post and wise advises. Finding a sole mate is the biggest blessing we can have.
Thanks for reminding me how important to take care of my partner!

    BR, Mostafa

Hi Mostafa, thanks for visiting. We all need a little nudge now and then, don’t we.

    Enjoy the journey.

  12. Hi Mandy,

Loved this post. I try to never take my partner for granted but it’s nice to be reminded. None of this journey we’re on would be worthwhile if there was no one to share it with.

Thanks for always inspiring us. Your blog looks great.

    Tracey

Thanks, Tracey, it’s great to know the words we write touch people somehow.

    Enjoy the journey.

    Mandy
